MASCOULISSE QUARTET

About us…

The Mascoulisse Quartet, composed of trombonists Stefano Belotti, Alberto Pedretti, Fabio De Cataldo, Antonio Mascherpa and Davide Biglieni, all graduated with top marks, honors, and mentions from the 'Luca Marenzio' Conservatory of Brescia and Gaetano Donizetti of Bergamo. Since its inception in 2006, the Quartet has performed in over 650 concerts across Italy, Europe, Macao, Hong Kong, the United States, and Oman. Their performances have graced prestigious venues such as Teatro Franco Parenti for the Società del Quartetto in Milan, Teatro Massimo in Pescara, Teatro Ristori in Verona, Duomo in Milan, Lugo Cathedral in Spain, the Inauguration of the ROHMA Theatre in Muscat (Oman), Dom Pedro Theatre in Macao, Y-Theatre in Hong Kong, and many others.

Motivated by their desire to create new repertoire and their natural inclination to experiment with new sounds, the quartet has collaborated with numerous renowned artists, including Giacomo Poretti, Eleonora Buratto, Annalisa Stroppa, Stefan Schulz, Andrea Giuffredi, Michel Becquet, Christian Lindberg, Vincent Lepape, David Bruchez, piano duo BiondiBrunialti, Giulio Mercati, and many others.

Additionally, members of the Mascoulisse Quartet serve as Conservatory Lecturers and Orchestra Professors in top orchestras across Italy and Europe, frequently invited as Masterclass Lecturers and soloists.

They have also established partnerships with record labels, TV and radio broadcasters such as Sony, EMI classica, RTL 102.5, Rai Italia, Radio3 RAI, Rai International, Mediaset, and Radio Onda Cero in Madrid. From 2020 to the end of 2023, the Quartet temporarily changed its name to 'Quartetto di Brescia' as a tribute to their hometown.

To date, the Mascoulisse Quartet has released seven records and several educational publications for conservatoire students.

VERDI 1901

In the Verdi Project, we perform on instruments from Giuseppe Verdi's own time, exploring the Italian sound world of the nineteenth century as it might originally have been heard.

These instruments reveal a different kind of balance: a warmer, more blended sonority, rich in color and subtle dynamic shading. The sound does not push outward; it unfolds. It does not overwhelm; it supports the vocal line. It breathes with the phrasing and with the drama.

This is not simply an exercise in historical reconstruction. It is an attempt to reconnect with an aesthetic — one shaped by cantabile playing, clarity of texture, and expressive restraint. In this sound world, harmony has depth, articulation has meaning, and silence carries weight.

The brass, in particular, take on a different character. More brilliance for its own sake, more voice — human, rounded, and lyrical. The result is a transparency that allows Verdi's writing to speak with directness and intimacy.

Verdi 1901 – The Sound Continues

Verdi's music has never stopped speaking.
We are simply listening to it through the colors he knew.

ROTA & MORRICONE
ITALIAN MASTERS

Our latest recording project is now available in physical format. Italian Masters is a heartfelt tribute to the great Italian musical tradition, reimagined through the expressive voice and rich tonal palette of brass instruments, featuring the extraordinary participation of Andrea Giuffredi as solo trumpet.

This album invites listeners on a musical journey across eras and styles, honoring composers who have shaped Italy’s cultural identity — Verdi, Puccini, Vivaldi, Morricone, and more. Each piece is presented in original arrangements designed to highlight the full expressive and coloristic potential of the brass ensemble, blending lyricism, brilliance, and depth.

The percussion section, masterfully performed by Biagio Zoli and Paolo Grillenzoni, adds rhythmic vitality and refined textures, enriching every track with energy and character.

Italian Masters is more than a CD — it is an immersive listening experience that celebrates Italian artistry with passion, elegance, and a contemporary perspective. A project created for those who love great music and wish to rediscover it through a fresh and compelling sound.

Donne mie care e l'angoscioso pianto

E quanti passi tra la notte e'l giorno

Spargendo indarno vo per tanti campi

Ché n'è gia pien' homai ciascuna valle.
